AUCKLAND SIGHTSEEING

Auckland Attractions & Sightseeing - Outdoor activities are common in Auckland, owing to the climate and environment. Simply lazing on a beach sipping an ice cold drink watching the world goes by will satisfy the less active tourist. The more active sea lovers have a wealth of activities around the Viaduct Harbour with yachting and other marine sports, and the Huaraki Gulf islands. Tired of the ocean? There’s cycling, hiking, bungee jumping and rock climbing opportunities available.

Travel Guide

The places for fashion and boutique shopping are in the center of the city, especially around the High Street and Queen Street. The Aotea Square markets are held every Fridays and Saturdays. On the waterfront, the Downtown Shopping Center is a convenient and upmarket mall. Ponsonby contains many chic and trendy clothing stores as well as antique shops.
The central business district adjoins Waitemata Harbour and the nearby waterfront of Viaduct Basin and Princes Wharf. This area is recently renovated and has loads of pleasant restaurants around a marina.

Viaduct Harbour

Newly rejuvenated dock that played host to the Americas Cups' teams when the yachting extravaganza was in town and is now one of the world's most vibrant premier sailing centers.

Tall slender tower 328m high, located in the middle of Auckland offering great panoramic views of the city and the sea. Offers skyjumps and a vertigo climb - a two-hour guided tour up the inside of the Sky Tower mast, culminating in a 15 minute internal climb but worth it in the end.

Rangitoto Island
Waitemata Harbour, Auckland
This extinct volcanic cone island has a small nature reserve. The island is at the entrance to Waitemata harbour and you can reach it by ferry.

Waiheke Island
Waitemata Harbour, Auckland
Another Island off Waitemata Harbour, with secret beaches, luscious vineyards, and many opportunities for canoeing, sailing, horse riding, etc. Again you reach it by ferry.

Judges Bay and Mission Bay Beaches
